Men and women serving as Link Group leaders make up the Leadership Team of our church. We practice a flat leadership structure in which our Leadership Team and staff work alongside each other to make executive decisions. In addition to our Leadership Team and staff members, we have various sub-teams delegated to organize mission-specific aspects of our community. One such team is the Speaking Team, a few hand-picked, gifted men and women in our church who deliver the sermons on Sundays.
See below to learn more about our staff members.
MARK STEPHENSON: CO-PASTOR
Mark grew up in a Baptist church where he received Christ at nine years old. He was active in his youth group and, while reading the Bible cover-to-cover in the summer between his junior and senior years of high school, felt a calling on his life for full-time vocational ministry. Mark attended Messiah College where he majored in biblical studies and had the opportunity to study abroad for one semester in Israel. He then went on to get his Master's of Divinity degree from Baylor University’s Truett Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, he returned to Maryland and helped launch Horizon Church of Towson in October 2004. Mark has been married to his wife, Melissa, since 2006, and together they have three children. Mark credits his longevity and fulfillment in ministry, in large part, to the many behind-the-scenes sacrifices that Melissa continues to make for him, for their family, and for the church as a whole.
STEPHANIE SCHILLING: CO-CHILDREN'S MINISTER
Stephanie grew up in a Christian home, and committed her life to Christ in middle school. She attended Grove City College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education. She received her master's degree in education from Covenant College in 2013. After teaching in a private, Christian school for nine years, Stephanie joined the Horizon staff in 2017. Stephanie has been married to her husband, Matt, since 2014. Matt began attending Horizon a few years before they met, but they decided to attend Horizon together before their engagement. They both cherish the opportunity to invest in an authentic community where life is lived together.
KATIE WHITE: DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND FACILITIES
Katie grew up in a Christian home and was confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in middle school. Hailing from Ohio, Katie moved to Baltimore in 2009 to begin her career in non-profit administration at Baltimore Center Stage. Following her time working in theater, Katie spent two years as the Director of Annual Giving and Communications at St. Ignatius Loyola Academy before choosing to stay home with her three young children. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business Management, with a minor in dance, from Ohio Northern University. She was thrilled to join the Horizon staff in 2019. Katie and her husband Tim are so honored to be a part of this unique church community.
RYAN CASEY: CO-PASTOR
Ryan met the Lord in high school while attending Young Life. He attended Messiah College, where he majored in pastoral ministry and volunteered with Young Life. After graduating in 2003, he served on Young Life's staff for several years. Ryan then attended Horizon for a season and served as a volunteer in many areas of the church. He accepted the call to join the Horizon staff in 2008. He later attended Gordon Conwell Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he earned a master's degree in Christian leadership. He married his wife, Kira, in 2016.
ASHLEY FRANCIS: CO-CHILDREN'S MINISTER
Ashley met the Lord while attending a local Christian high school. She received her bachelor's degree in family studies and community development from Towson University. For several years, Ashley worked as a volunteer and administrative coordinator at our ministry partner, HopeSprings. She resigned to stay home with her children, and has enjoyed reentering the workforce by joining the Horizon staff in 2018. She and her husband, Dan, have two children together.
